Mr. Polanco completed his Bachelor\u2019s degree in Electrical & Power Systems\u00a0Engineering at the Universidad Nacional Pedro Henriquez Ure\u00f1a (UNPHU)\u00a0<\/span>College of Engineering, in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, and is in the\u00a0<\/span>process of completing his Master of Science in Electrical Engineering\u00a0<\/span>(M.S.E.E.) with a concentration in Power Systems from the Worcester\u00a0<\/span>Polytechnic Institute (WPI) graduate college of engineering, in Worcester, MA\u00a0<\/span>USA.<\/span><\/div>
\u00a0<\/span><\/div><\/div><\/section>
He has 19 overall years of experience performing electrical work, with more\u00a0than 14 years of experience in the electric utility and working as a Protection\u00a0<\/span>and Controls Engineer in the United States (US). He is a subject matter\u00a0<\/span>expert (SME) in Transmission, Distribution, Industrial and Generation\u00a0<\/span>protection systems applications performing modeling and protection systems\u00a0<\/span>studies. Currently he is an active contributing member on the IEEE Power\u00a0<\/span>Systems Relaying Committee (IEEE-PSRC) technical working groups\u00a0<\/span>standards development teams since 2013 focusing on Protection Systems\u00a0<\/span>standards review and development ensuring implementation of best\u00a0<\/span>engineering practices that will result in increased reliability and security of\u00a0<\/span>our protection systems.<\/span><\/div>
\u00a0<\/span><\/div>
Mr. Polanco began his career in consulting in 2001 and was initially involved\u00a0with Industrial and commercial work, performing calculations for power\u00a0factor corrections and HVAC sizing designs based on the calculated thermal\u00a0output capacity.\u00a0<\/span>He later joined the Empresa Distribuidora de Electricidad\u00a0del Sur (EDESUR), the South Distribution Company of the Dominican Republic\u00a0as an Electrical Inspector on the Field Services division working there\u00a0between 2002-2004, and before graduating with his B.S.E.E.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/div><\/div><\/section>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

After graduating Mr. Polanco relocated to the United States in 2005 where he worked for couple of consulting companies in New York City (NYC) and Middletown, Connecticut (CT) performing Electrical Field metering Inspection Services work on Commercial systems in buildings and performing support in electrical CAD\/Design work.<\/div>
\u00a0<\/div>
Later on, Mr. Polanco kept pursuing additional challenges and join in 2006\u00a0the Northeast Utilities (NU) company, today known as Eversource where he\u00a0worked in the Substations and Transmission Protection and Controls (P&C)\u00a0groups until 2010. On NU\u2019s Substation group Mr. Polanco performed hundreds\u00a0of Electro-Magnetic Field simulations using EPRI EMF Workstation a\u00a0software\u00a0programs designed to calculate magnetic and electric fields from T&D\u00a0modeled lines configurations and substations. In addition, Mr. Polanco\u00a0performed EMF measurements using IEEE-644 standard, and supported the\u00a0NU thermal Ratings Calculations using IEEE-738 reporting back to the ISO-NE\u00a0final computations for reliability compliance.<\/div>
\u00a0<\/div>
On the NU Transmission P&C Mr. Polanco was involved in executing many\u00a0engineering scopes related to design reviews, short-circuit simulated fault\u00a0studies, root-cause analysis (RCA), protection relay settings coordination\u00a0evaluations, end-to-end tests and breaker ratings duty studies on NU\u2019s 115-345kV system, being the two (2) more significant projects executed, first, the\u00a0115 kV Glenbrook Cables were Mr. Polanco received a recognition from the\u00a0Edison Electrical Institute (EEI) for his project participation as part of the\u00a02009\u00a0Edison Electric Institute (EEI) award to NU for its southwest Connecticut\u00a0transmission projects,\u00a0and seconds, the Kleen Energy Generation remote\u00a0ends (Scovill Rock and Manchester) projects.<\/div>
\u00a0<\/div><\/div><\/section>
His ambitions lead him to join the General Electric (GE) Company Utilities\u00a0Power Delivery consulting group for North America in Oakbrook Terrace, IL\u00a0(Chicago Area) in 2010 as a Lead Protection and Controls (P&C) Engineer\u00a0supporting many utilities customers thought the United States providing\u00a0specialize consulting services on protection engineering scopes for major\u00a0customers like Baltimore Gas and Electric (BGE), Florida Power and Light\u00a0(FPL), Oklahoma Gas and Electric (OGE), Public Service of New Hampshire\u00a0(PSNH) and others. The more significant projects executed by Mr. Polanco\u00a0were BGE Northwest #2, BGE High Ridge (GIS) and leading the line\u00a0protection end-to-end testing on the PSNH Paris Collector project.<\/div>
\u00a0<\/div>
After Mr. Polanco\u2019s outstanding performance in GE\u2019 Power Delivery team he\u00a0was promoted to Senior Engineer (2012) and Principal Engineer (2014)\u00a0joining the specialized GE Energy Consulting International team and\u00a0relocated to Schenectady, New York, further expanding his technical skills\u00a0and capabilities within the power system protection studies and developing\u00a0an in-depth expertise in performing Power Plant, Generators, industrial and\u00a0auxiliary systems modeling, calculations and relay settings\u00a0recommendations, ending with more than sixty (60) power plants protection\u00a0studies and analysis performed in 17 countries in support of projects all over\u00a0the world between 2012-2017. The more significant power plants projects\u00a0executed were the GE Algeria Megadeal (GE\u2019s US$2.7B Projects) involving six\u00a0(6) combine cycle plants (Bellara, MS Coastal, Djelfa, Khenchela, Oumache\u00a0and Naama) with a total installed capacity of 8 gigawatt (GW) of electricity\u00a0were Mr. Polanco performed the power plant modeling, short-circuit,\u00a0protection settings calculations and programming, including providing\u00a0remote support to the engineering on-site GE field electrical testing and\u00a0commissioning teams.<\/div>
\u00a0<\/div>
In addition to supporting the GE Power Plant Generation business (GE Power),\u00a0Mr. Polanco continued providing ongoing support for utilities and Industrial\u00a0customers not only in the United States but also abroad and the more\u00a0significant projects Mr. Polanco executed are the BGE 230kV Raphael Road\u00a0substation, BGE 230\/115kV Graceton substation, Scottish Power Energy\u00a0Networks (SPEN) 400kV Series Compensated Line Protection\u00a0recommendations, Postsdam Microgrid Project for National Grid USA,\u00a0Freeport LNG Project, NorthWestern Energy NW 230kV Peterson Flats Series\u00a0Compensated transient impedance evaluation and Sabiya (Middle-East)\u00a0Power Plant 400kV Line equipment protection applications review.<\/div>
\u00a0<\/div><\/div><\/section>
Mr. Polanco was the Instructor responsible for teaching the Fundamentals of\u00a0Power Systems Protection courses between 2012-2016 as part of the well-known General Electric (GE) \u201cPower System & Energy Course (PSEC)\u201d\u00a0program, which has been taught in Schenectady, NY at the historic GE Power\u00a0Systems headquarters since 1950.\u00a0<\/div>
\u00a0<\/div>
Mr. Polanco\u2019s analytical and technical abilities are complemented by the\u00a0familiarization and use of many industry software tools applied in power\u00a0system modeling, simulations and analysis like ASPEN, ETAP, EasyPower,\u00a0SKM, Siemens PTI PSS\/E, PowerWorld, and his experienced with many relays\u00a0manufacturers Electromechanical and microprocessors like GE, SEL,\u00a0SIEMENS, Beckwith, Eaton and Areva relays.<\/div>
\u00a0<\/div>
Mr. Polanco has lead reliability standards implementations as NERC PRC-019,\u00a0PRC-023, PRC-024 and PRC-025, Supervise Factory Acceptance Settings Test,\u00a0provided Engineering Field Support during relay commissioning, developed\u00a0end-to-end and dynamic test plan, perform short-circuit current calculations,\u00a0power system modeling, protection coordination, root-cause analysis and\u00a0has\u00a0provided presentations, webinars and technical training promoting that\u00a0acceptable levels of protection implementations and best engineering\u00a0practices are shared around the world.<\/div>
\u00a0<\/div>
Mr. Polanco In his personal life, lives with his wife Yoely and 5 year old\u00a0daughter\u2019s Amy.<\/div>
